League of Legends

PLEASE SEE MY OTHER POST ABOUT LoL AND IGNORE THIS ONE.

http://leagueoflegends.com/

League of Legends is the next version of Defence of the Ancients (DotA), a game which combines team play, soloing and other tactics in a Diablo-style tower defence game.  LOL has many aspects of Demigod combined with the art style of Warcraft 3, creating a smooth but deep gameplay.  It’s also a free-to-play game, with some items being unlocked by playing more, and others by purchasing online points to spend.

The gameplay itself is clean, functions well, does not lag much for me and is easy to work with.  However, the login and setup screens are a bit clunky, especially once entering a game, which can make it a pain.  Rounds themselves only last 20 - 40 minutes at most, but a huge kicker is that once in a game, you can’t quit out.  This is great of you get disconnected, but ultra shitty if you want to leave because the game is going down the tubes.  The offset, of course, is you game experience for winning or losing, and a decent amount for both.  So even sucking up a round isn’t a huge waste.

The other huge kicker is the game has a nasty learning curve.  There is the wonderful option to play pactice games with others, but learning exactly how to setup a champion takes a bit of work, and there are 20+ champtions to choose from!  The wekely rotation of unlocked champions is a good idea, though, so long as you don’t get too attached to one.  Gives you a chance to learn new champs and cycle the game play for a while.  Plus, you can buy any champ with game-play points, or buy the collector physical box to unlock them all!  Not bad for $30.

All in all, it’s a decent game with plenty of replay, multiplayer team based, and rewards for winning or loosing.  The single-game at a time and learning curves are going to be major turn offs for some people, but for others it is just part of the gameplay.  And being free to play the whole game, it is totally worth downloading and trying!

Robot Overlords

Managed to get out to a cafe last night and see both Distraction and Outspoken Worsmiths.  Wasa great show once the strange newbie poets finished.  Amazing beatboxing from the OW and Distraction was as awesome as always.

Unfortuantely, had to leave due to a family emergency just as distraction started.  So a crappy end to a good night.

My first contribution to the GF Grid mural is up:

Check out the Mural Page to see how it fist.

Will have the usual answers for March posted tomorrow.

Suprises Abound

America’s Talibangelists
- Dan Savage

I haven’t posted much lately because some stuff, good stuff mind you, has happened, but I don’t feel like detailing it on a public blog.  At least not yet.  Unfortunately, due to some of this, I will become crazy busy, which means some of these posts will become very brief and short…not that they aren’t already.

But, things are going very well.  If you know me personally, please contact me via email or other methods.  I’ve got some interesting news.

If anyone is selling, or knows of a good place to get the following at a bargain, let me know:

  • 6-string Electric Guitar, Fender Stratocaster Style
  • 6-string  Acoustic/Electric Guitar
  • Volumne Wah Pedal

Underlated to family issues, I have become involved in a mural at ye old Graphics-Forums: The Grid Mural.

I am also hosting the compiled mural, check that out here.

My contributions are under the alias White Rabbitt, my previous handle.

Mordacai, Destroyer of Worlds!

Straight to Video

I’m sure the bigs news today has been Obama’s Inauguration, but really, I have nothing to say about that.  I’m excited, I’m glad, but it explains itself.  Now we sit back and find out just how much of that was true.  (Albeit, I beleive almost all of it was.)

Around here, things have been very odd.  I tried to get some decent pictures of thee crazy fog we’ve had for almost two weeks, but no luck.  Each night it seems to get thicker, to the point that it becomes almost Silent Hill-eque.  My crazy co-worker, (the partner-in-crime on the desk wrapping), wants to make a Pyramid Head costume and wander around with an air raid siren blaring.  I’d love to help, but the fog will (hoepfully) be gone before this can come to fruition.

I finally found out what “The Gift” from NIN was.  405 gigabyes of raw unedited footages, torrented and hosted for editing and fan-made DVD creation!

They included data from three shows, Sacramento, Portland and …. Victoria!  I do not have the ability to edit, but I am anxiously awaiting the many DVDs and videos that will come.  I ranted and raved about the Lights in the Sky concert when I saw it, and it truly is an experience that deserves a recording to immortalize it in the digital era of cheap pop music.  I am vastly excited, and knowing how the fans are, I’m sure at least one DVD will be made!

Oh, and 320 kbps rips of the Victoria audio!  Getting it now as I post. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X2OTDDIW

Dream Mural, Round 3

Very happy with my new addition to the Dream Mural @ Graphic-Forums.  The main reason I am so pelased is how the base image turned out….I’m happy that I’m starting to regain some of my long-lost photoshop skills again.  Was starting to worry that they were gone for good!

Snow!

Took some time over the weekend to photograph the snowy madness.  I’m planning on uploading a whole bunch more pictures in the next week, or so, after cleaning them up.

But here’s a preview of what I got:

Does Anime Count as a Hobby?

Well it’s been a while since I’ve used my blog….as usual….however it’s not that I have nothing to add, I’ve just been too busy being lazy.  Finally catching up on a bunch of anime, and I found me a reliable manga source, so all is good there.  I hope to update my anime to-watch list with a table, and include a list of manga aswell, as I read them.  Also, if anyone knows where I can pick up cheap copies of Hellsing please let me know.  I must have it! MUST! HAVE IT! My precious!

Finally finished my first photoshop piece in at least 3 years.  I wasn’t happy with it, but I’m participating in a mural at ye olde Graphic-Forums so I had to add something.  It’s nice because a) I have to start using photoshop again to keep the mural going and b) I get to collaborate with a bunch of GF old-timers that I like. It’s win-win-win!

I keep forgetting to check out http://everydayfiction.com …. every day.  Man, I really should sign up to the mailing list.  If you haven’t checked it out (which I highly doubt considering I know who reads this) you really should.  Each day, a new 1000 word, or less, story is posted and each one is by a different writter. Submissions are open so anyone can send in entries too! Maybe, if I ever get off my ass, I’ll submit something too…
