After about a month of waiting, I finally have a newer and better system, and it’s running in parallel with my older system. Big plus was the new system was 100% free!
I had the following items donated:
ATI PCI-X X700
Decent Intel Mother Board with a 3GHz Core2 Duo Processor
1 GByte of PC4200 DDR1 RAM
350 Watt PS for the C2Duo
250 GB SATA HDD
Traded for some PC2700 RAM that I used to upgrade the old comp too. Plus there may be a second 19″ CRT in the future. Huge stroke of luck, couple of weekends of work, but it worked out quite well.
If anyone wants to donate to the Aleph-is-too-poor-to-buy-a-new-computer fund, I still need a second DVD-R or DVD-RW and decent AGP 4x video card. Once I have that, I will have a good and decent computer, both for relatively little cost! Huzzah.
Now to get this blog back into shape and used again….anyone know a decent photo album plugin for Word Press?
Hello, my name is Aleph and I am a commuter. I am a victim of the Metro Vancouver public transit system: TransLink. This week I got to experience my “best” commute ever via the wonderful SkyTrain system.
While randomly flipping through channels the other night, I ended up in the middle of a clip from the stupid send-in-your-dumb-home-videos show; Real TV. Usually I watch that for about 30 seconds, then change channel quickly, but this time I was actualy aghast at what I saw.
I entered into the middle of a video that was recoreded from a security camera at some club or business. What it showed was one guy being hunted down, shot and killed in a room full of pool tables. The narrator explained that the video, which repeated and zoomed-in on the shots to the victims head, that this was evidence tap for a murder in which the shooter was convicted. Finding that randomly on TV was absolutely stunning and actually shocking.
I mean, I’ve seen Faces of Death, Rotten, Afganistan and Iraq War Crimes evidence videos, and PETA videos about the Asian fur traders, so I have seen real deaths and horific video images. Most of the aforementioned were quite disturbing, but when I saw them I was expecting the worse and I had warning about what I was going to see. This was just out of the blue, WHAM real life murder right in front of my face. On prime time before 10 pm! Is human life so worthless that it is only worth a 5 minute segment on a crappy show just so they can get some ratings??
Worst of all, at the end, when the narrator was on camera again, his line was: “Okay, you can bring the kids back into the room now.” I’m sorry, but you showed a fucking real murder and expect people to just shoo their kids out of the room, watch it, then ignore it like it was nothing? Perfect example of absolutely disgustingly desenstized the American TV programs expect their audience to be.
And yes, the convicted murderer was apprently appealing the verdict after trying to claim the shooting was self defence. (It’s coming right for us!)
“Okay, so you’ve had this blog running since May, now when are you going to stop linking YouTube videos and post some content?” I asked myself. My harsh tone conveying that my subconsious had finally gotten away from my adept procrastination and was ready to kick me in the mental balls for being such a slacker.
Truthfully, there’s two reasons I rarely post. One, I don’t usually have access to a computer I can use. I won’t “blog” from work, and my wife is usually on the computer these days. Two, by time I get home, and get the computer finally, I’m too tired to try and type coherently, and even less inclined to come up with something worth writing.
However, I have some time tonight, I may as well use it…
